A woman political prisoner’s objection to U Thein Sein Government

Ma Noble Aye, who still is behind bars of Monywar prison and also a member of 88 Generation Students, officially wrote an open objection letter to U Thein Sein on June 6th 2011. In the letter expresses to withdraw saying “There are no political prisoners in Myanmar” of U Thein Sein’s statesmen.

My name is Hnin May Aung @ Noble Aye and my ID no. is 12/Tha Ga Ka (N) 044366. My father’s name is U Thet Htun Aung. I was arrested in September 1998 and imprisoned for 42 years in January 1999 under Act No. 5(J), Publishing Act 17/20 for distributing booklets stating how the December 1996 student demonstration was cracked down on by the military. I was released from Myaung Mya prison on July 6th 2005, along with others who were imprisoned by NIB (National Investigation Bureau). We were told by the authorities that we could continue to be involved in politics according to our own perspectives and beliefs.
After I was released from prison I analysed the political situation in Burma. I conversed with like-minded people who believe that dialogue is necessary for national reconciliation, democracy, peace and human rights for all the people of Burma. Due to these activities, I was arrested again in August 2007 and sentenced to 11 years imprisonment at the end of 2008 under the Association Act – 6 and Act 505 (b). I am still in Monywar prison.
Both imprisonments were due to my analysis, discussions and suggestions about the political situation in Burma. I was and remain imprisoned for these actions. Therefore, I, Hnin May Aung @ Noble Aye (Father) U Thet Htun Aung am a political prisoner.
Like me, there are other political prisoners in the prisons of Burma imprisoned for their activities regarding the political situation in Burma.
The new Government of the Union of Myanmar state they are implementing a democratic system in Burma. However when Vice President, Thiha Thura U Tin Aung Myint Oo met with the US Senatro Mr. John McCain on June 2nd 2011, he refused to answer questions from the Senator about political prisoners saying “There are no political prisoners in Myanmar”.
On the same day, when U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Union of Myanmar, met with the US Mr. John McCain, he also refused to answer the questions from the Senator saying “There are no political prisoners in Myanmar”.
I, political prisoner Hnin May Aung @ Noble Aye, imprisoned for my analysis, discussions and suggestions for national reconciliation, democracy, peace and human rights for the people of Burma strongly object to this refusal by the members of the new government of the Union of Myanmar, Vice President Thiha Thura U Tin Aung Myint Oo, and Union Minister of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Union of Myanmar U Wunna Maung Lwin.
As members of the new government, which is implementing a just and transparent democratic system, refusing to acknowledge the political prisoners is deviating from the justice which is fundamental to democracy and continues the abuses (corruption) and lies which ignore the actual situation.
I have informed and submitted to the President U Thein Sein of the Union of Myanmar to withdraw the statements that “there are no political prisoners in Burma” in 30 days from today (June 6th 2011), if the government fails to do this, I will have to go on making objections.
